Hi, I have had the privilege of having 27Pinkx on board in the interview series and I am so excited to share the interview of Anjum Ahmed, co – owner of 27Pinkx, read below what Anjum has to say:

Describe your business?

27Pinkx is your one stop online beauty store founded by myself and my sister Khatija. 27Pinkx is more than just a sum of its products – It’s a shopping experience that promises to amaze its customers by delivering extraordinary products and customer experiences. It is a convenient beauty destination for busy Moms, business woman and Girls on the go. We deliver countrywide

Where did the idea for your business come from?

My sister and I realised we have caught up with fashion trends but we are a little behind when it comes to beauty. Our aim is to bring South Africa on par with international beauty trends and make it easily accessible to South Africans. We also specialise in the combination of Niche lines that are not offered anywhere else. Which online or department store do you see selling organizers, makeup and lighted mirrors?

What motivates you?

What pushes us is the constant testing of limits and constant learning. Khatija and I continuously motivate one another to achieve new Goals and push new boundaries when it comes to 27Pinkx. We also like challenging ourselves to raise our business to higher levels.

How do you define success?

Success is a journey of many intermediate goals that must be realised in order to meet ones ultimate goal, however this ultimate goal is not final, it’s a dynamic process, which is always growing with one’s self and the realisation of one’s ideals.  Success is not final just as failure is not final.   For instance today I look back and think of when we started 27Pinkx from our home 2 and a half years ago with one perspex organiser called the Luxury and now we have over 50 products on our online store. To me this is success.

Who has been your greatest inspiration?

There are so many people that inspire us, they all have one thing in common, they persevere no matter how difficult things get.

To what do you most attribute your success? What would say are the five key elements for starting and running a successful business?

  1. Being Innovative
  2. Determination and working hard in spite of small failures
  3. Learning from constructive criticism which has been our most important asset.
  4. Keeping up with trends and being flexible.
  5. Your involvement in your business should have intensity but one must have the ability to step back and look at the finer details with eyes of the consumer and find time to be aware of  what’s going on in other businesses

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

When we found that our competitors were inspired by our ideas

In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.

Exciting

What makes you happy?

In terms of business it has to be launches. The feeling of launching a new product after all the months or years of hard work is incredible. My sister sketched some brushes which took months of research and planning. I can’t describe the feeling of when we had the sample in our hands and just looking at the drawing at the same time seemed so surreal. Being able to take a brand without a name, without a presence, and bring it to life is just the most amazing feeling.

Your philosophy is?

To always deliver a unique product which our client will enjoy using

Any advice for anyone who wants to start their own business?
